Historical Background

Dr. Toufic Kalil arrived in the United States as a young boy from Lebanon in 1910.  He attended Tufts University School of Medicine and then practiced in New Hampshire at the Elliot Hospital, where he built a world-class radiation oncology center.

Kalil and his friend Isadore Zimmerman were colleagues and prominent members of the Manchester medical community. They shared a rich appreciation of music, art and architecture, which led them both to engage with Wright to design their homes.

Dr. Kalil’s pioneering work in radiology brought invitations to study and travel internationally. This afforded him opportunities to collect fine art which remains in the Kalil House today.
